let's blog!

I was thinking to myself that I haven't blogged for awhile and I should be studying some chemistry but I said hey, let's blog instead!

Thanksgiving break was a fun time! I got to see a whole bunches of family and friends and work pals and work elders.. I love them so much! Some guy was talking to me about how he doesn't have cable but he loves movies and I was like well I could probably go without cable as long as I have my DVD player and a TV. He proceeded to tell me that he has thousands of DVD's whether they're movies or old TV shows (he said they're mostly TV shows though) and that when they had his yard sale after he dies I should come check them out! I was like hahahahha (awwwkkkkward) but I agreed! Then we talked a little more and he said "actually, I think I'll put my DVD collection in my will for you." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! I died of laughter! It was hilarious!

here are some photos from break:

The day after break.. it was a little empty. and yes, the students down the hall are Asian.

funny story!

So today we did group in my rhetoric class we did group improve speeches. In one of the groups, there's this super shy and quiet Korean girl who barely says anything at all. Well, it came time for her group and their topic was "what is the worst movie and why." She was the last one, as she always is, in the line that we go down to talk during the speeches. It came to be her turn and all she said was "I think Twilight is one of the worst movies. The only good thing about it is Taylor Lautner, he's so sexy!"

ahhahahahahahahhahahahahahahaa we all DIED of laughter!

Happy Tuesday :)

playing catch-up

I got a whole bunches done this afternoon so I decided to blog and let you guys know I'm still alive. haha! I am still alive! Just trying to play catch-up with missing most of last week. I'm almost done with all of my make-up work! woohooooooo! :) I just have a little bit left that I'll finish tonight and some notes to type which I can do anytime. Some stuff you might care about:

I don't have to go to my 5:00 class on Thursdays now! OHHH YEAHHH! I HATED going to that lecture anyway because it's a math lecture and I had already done and conquered everything he was going to talk about. And no one showed up anyway so he just decided to make it office hours so if you need help he's still there but you don't have to go. And, we don't have class this friday or next! ohhh yeahh! I can't remember why he cancelled for this friday but next friday is the day we go on break so he figured no one would show up.. plus we took a vote and everyone voted for no class! Rock on! Now we only have 10 more required attendance days for that class. CRAAAAZY.

Ummm.. oh! Our room is well-heated, just in case anyone was nervous that we were being frozen. We aren't! In fact, we keep the window open because it is SO hot in there. Seriously I like die of sweat and over heating.. but not really. It is really hot, though!

I'm currently chillin' in the laundry room, doing some laundry. The air is on in here.. it feels good. That's how hot they keep this building! But I picked the quiet washer to put my blanket in, so it's pretty legit :)

This weekend is family weekend! wooohoooo! The fam bam is making an appearance, obviously, and we are going to the fooooootball game (which we'll probably lose.. showing my true hawk spirit, I know) and then I don't know what's going to take place but I'm sure it'll be super exciting!

Soooo yeah. That's really all I have to report. I come home in 9 days. wooohoooooo! Excitement!

I'll try to blog more often after this week, I promise!

FIIIIIIIIREEEEE!

So, my Thursday was an interesting one to say the least. Here is what happened:

At about 1:30am I'm just chillin' in my bed, almost asleep, when I hear like loud beeps outside and they were really annoying me. I had an inkling I knew what they were.. and I was right. Yep, it was the fire alarms! Soon, they went off in our room and I had to calmly wake up Megan and we went into the hallway to find our fellow floor-mates and evacuate. While we were on our way into the hallway, I heard someone say "what do we do?" I responded in a bitchy type manner with "Oh, I don't know.. probably go outside so we don't get burned." idiot.

So we evacuated and we were outside in the 40 degree weather for about 30-45 minutes. It was real interesting- some girls wearing little to no clothes, some girls bringing their whole closet outside just in case the building burned down, some girls were just eating some soup at 1:30am. The whole works! hahahha it was kinda fun, not that we were forced to evacuate, but to see everyone in their true freakout mode!

After we were able to go back inside and go to sleep, I woke up and went to class and found out my 5:00 lecture was cancelled! Score! So after my only class of the day ended at 12:30, I decided I was going to take a nap and then go to wally-world because it has been raining lately and my umbrella is broken! I couldn't fall asleep so I was like okay I'll just go now. To get there, I had to ride the arts building/studio arts bus and I got some strange looks! Apparently I don't look like a dancer or art major :) But oh well. So I'm riding this bus for a good 15 minutes and I go to get off of the bus because I thought it was my stop. NOPE. NOT MY STOP. whoops! So I sat and called my momma for the 20 minutes I had to wait for the next bus.

After I got on the next bus, I was like okay, I'll just get off at the next stop, it can't be that long of a walk. YEP, it's kind of a long walk, and it was pouring. So, basically, I rode the bus for a good 45 minutes for absolutely nothing! I was kind of mad but then again I had nothing else to do so it was fine. Plus, if I ever need to take that bus, I will know all of the stops, which is a really good thing to know!

While on the bus, this girl was eating a banana. I'm not really a banana fan but boy did that make me crave one! When I finally got off the bus, I went running all over downtown for a banana, no one had any! I was so mad because I was craving a freaking banana! But, after dinner and before Grey's Anatomy, we went and go smoothies and I got a strawberry and banana smoothie so it turned out alright in the end.

There's my exciting Thursday!

Ummmm but really nothing exciting has happened except for homecoming festivities but I don't really have any photos, sorrrrryyy! Last weekend my parentals were supposed to come but sadly couldn't :( so I spent Saturday with my other family in Washington! wooohoooo! Oh, Bon Jovi was in town on Friday night!

Okay, all these pictures are just a mumble jumble of stuff but oh well!

where are all the people?

This is where my rhetoric class and philosophy classes take place. Usually there are a lot of people there but today there was no one!

Any guesses as to why the CNN politics bus is here?

Fam Visit and Interesting Stats

Last weekend, my parentals and lovely brother visited for the weekend! woooo! Party with Tom and Lynn and John!

We started off the day meeting at Kinnick, where they actually beat us, but oh well. Headed to Carver Hawkeye for some open basketball practice and then went to the game! After the game (which we won) we went to Applebees and ate yummy food. Then dumped dad off at the hotel due to a headache and then chilled at my dorm for a little bit. Sunday we basically just shopped. It was an exciting weekend!

Okay, so I signed into Blogger today and the first thing that popped up was about my blog views and where they come from and such. I found these super interesting!

On 09/19, I had 10 page views, 09/18 I have 16!
Last month: 1,093 page views.
I've had 3 views from Russia and 1 from Germany.

I think it's so cool!
But, if you read my blog and I don't know you or if I do know you, please comment! I wanna know where all these views are coming from!

no ACL tear for me!

This girl spent her afternoon at her very first student health visit today! It was kinda scary because I had to fill out a bunch of insurance papers and stuff and I was scared I was going to do it wrong, but I didn't!

I went to get my knee checked out after my medicus mentor thought I may have torn my ACL. SO! After hearing that, I thought I better just go get it check out and also I was in major pain! Turns out, when I slipped on cardboard back in July, I should've gone to the doctor then because my knee was severely sprained. Now, it's still feeling the after effects of that and all the walking I do on a daily basis. I'm just really glad it isn't torn and no ligament damage and what not! wooo! :)

But anyways, like I mentioned above, the group I'm part of, Medicus, and I applied to get a medicus mentor, basically a med student that is your guide and such. And I was one of the first 200 to apply so I got one!

He's really cool- he's lived in places like Thailand, Boston, Colorado, and California and now he is at the U to study pediatric oncology! His wife is a physical therapist here so they seem pretty cool! We have to get together at least like once a month and such just to say that we are participating in the program.

Another fun fact, the other girl in my group (there's only 2 of us) is actually from Sheldon! How ironic is that?!?!?!

Anyways.. off to math class. Have a great weekend!

boring.

Seriously, there's nothing good to write about this week and no pictures as of right now so I'll just ramble on about life.

I have been selected for the Medicus Mentorship program and so I will be paired with a graduate med student! So I'm pretty excited about that because I'll be able to ask them a bunch of questions and they can help me with school work and what not. So that meeting is tonighttttttt!

But that's like it, for real. Sorry this is so boring but there's nothing to report. :(

On the plus side- it's only supposed to be 60 tomorrow! oh heck yeah! I'm sick of this 90 stuff. It's a little over the top.

the last three days.. post 3

Saturday: Iowa/ISU game

Okay! so! at this point in time, my feet were absolutely killing me.. then you add a 3 hour football game in there.. I'll just leave it at that.

Good thing I had a blast at the game! Even though it didn't turn out as we wanted to, we still had fun and made memories and took some pics!

First thing we did was get up and get ready (obviously) and went and ate then we headed downtown/to the field/to people watch wherever there was a mass number of people! It was fun to see differences in people and to see how craaaazy people get! There are just people EVERYWHERE and anywhere you can find a spot! While we were walking around, I realized I felt like we were loners since everyone else had a big group of people, so we texted up my new friend Jake and it turns out the people he was with ditched him to go drink! So we met up with him and walked around and did our version of tailgating. I actually saw a couple from Estherville so I got to talk to them! wooohoooo!

After we had walked around for awhile, we headed to Carver Hawkeye arena where they hold public practices! It was sweet and man those boys are cute with their shirts off! ;) But we didn't realize this until about 11:50 so we only watched until about 12 and then we headed to wait in line since the gates open at 1. We didn't want a bad spot!

I'm so so glad we waited in line for so long, it was so worth it! Our view was awesome! (side note: I'm also glad we headed over at about 10:45) Here's some pics from the day..

the last three days.. post 2

Friday: Obama and Biden come to IC.

OF COURSE I WENT! How could you not?! I mean seriously, even if you don't like him or believe in what he does, it was a free ticket to go see the president of the country. COME ON.

The doors opened at 1, but I had class until 1:30 with the other girl I was going with so we started standing in like at 1:30 and we stood. and we stood. and we stood. and we stood. until about 6:45 when I got home! I can't imagine how the people who had been sitting since 8:30 felt. OMG. It was so worth it though! Even though my feet were basically going to fall off of my body, it was truly an amazing experience to hear from and be so close to the president of the country! I am so glad I skipped a class to go, I would have been really mad if I hadn't gone. It's so weird to think that they had flown from New Hampshire to Iowa City for an hour speech! I'm so glad they did though! It was awesome! I had lots of fun and couldn't stop taking pictures! :)
