2nd week wrap-up

The second week of classes has officially come to a close! I'm really starting to like my classes except for my philosophy class- its so boring. The instructor talks about all these big words that my friends and I don't know! It's not a fun time.

Tonight, Megan and I decided we were going to do a little decorating! It was so much fun and it looks so different! I will post pics at a later date. We are actually going to be entering a contest to win some hawk dollars so check back on how to help us out so we can win! Also tonight, we went to get some cold stone ice cream to finish celebrating her birthday. It was yummy! We explored a little to find the post office first, which was found, and we found a bunch of houses and apartments- much different than the dorms and buildings we see everyday. So that was kind of cool to see. We saw many, many sketchy people in our adventure. A few homeless, a few highly intoxicated, a few high, and a few that were just plain ole weird. We still had fun though! We finished the night by watching pretty little liars, my favorite show! Megan is really starting to get hooked! :)

Tomorrow I am actually going to leave campus and going to visit our friends the Murphys for the weekend! I'm super pumped! :) we are going to go shopping and I heard they are feeding me really well when I am there! I am so grateful to get away for a little bit! I'll post monday or tuesday about all the fun :)

fight, fight, fight for Iowa!

Last night we took a little adventure to the Iowa/SDSU volleyball game and it was so much fun! Even better, we won! yay! Here are some photos to document the event:

On the way home we had a little bit of an issue, though. We took the Blue route bus because it goes to Burge, the dorm right next to us and when we got on the bus driver said "you might want to get on the other bus because this one stops at Kinnick." Like everyone else we just thought he meant it makes a stop at Kinnick (the football stadium) because it is on the route anyway. He was not clear at all about it actually stopping and not running anymore at Kinnick! So we had to walk a mile and a half back to our dorm and we were NOT happy about it. We did find a couple of girls to walk with, though, as they had a not so good encounter on the way to the game with a couple of creeper guys. No worries, we made it with no trouble at all! Although, my feet were KILLING me! I wore like cute flats to the game thinking I wouldn't have to walk very far.. boy was I wrong! It's a good thing we didn't workout yesterday, I'd probably still be sleeping!

In other news, I got an email from UI Medicus, a medical group that meets every once and awhile and has many benefits such as:

   * Medical Student Mentors
   * Unique Volunteering Opportunities
   * Social Events

I think it will be super fun to meet new people that are my major and want to eventually go down the same road as me! So I signed up for it yesterday! woohooo! I'm super excited!

Rewarding Yourself

I went shoppin' around a little bit because I needed to find a duffle bag to take some stuff with me over labor day since I'm going to a friend's house in Washington, IA! So I got the duffle bag and then I remembered I needed some binder clips. Found those, too! Then I saw the sale rack..

Then I got to thinking.. I could just reward myself for making it one full week through college! I talked myself into it :) but seriously, I need to stop looking at shops.. I need to remember I'm a poor college student and cannot be spending my money on this stuff!

what the heck happened last night?

so what the heck happened last night!? ha for real though. Meg and I were just chillin', minding our own business when all of a sudden we kept hearing more and more loud voices (different than the ones that were fairly quiet down the hall at the party someone was throwing). So I decided to get up and check it out.

IT WAS SO WORTH IT! Our across the hall neighbor was being carried in by this short, tiny dude and every time he set her down she'd like run away! hahaha it was so funny! We got a great laugh out of it! So all these guys that took her home kept saying "where's Shorty? where's Shorty?" (Shorty is Sam's, the girl who was carried in, roommate). So of course we were not going to bed! We stayed up until like 11:30 waiting for something good to happen.

In the middle of all of this comical stuff, we had action out our window, too! Megan and I are pretty sure we witnessed a drug deal with people outside Burge, the dorm next to ours. All we had to say is "This is awesome entertainment!"

Something good did happen with Sam! Although we didn't wait up for Shorty (Danielle) to get in, we did get to hear all the guys say "we can't just leave her alone. she's really bad. she just puked all over the floor! puke is icky." hahahahah they were obviously drunk themselves so they were saying some pretty ridiculously funny things. At one point, somehow Sam got in her lofted bed (HORRIBLE IDEA) and when they opened the door, she fell off her bed. Ommmmmggggggg, these people! It was so funny. So a couple guys stayed in with Sam in her room to make sure nothing happened and 3 guys stood outside her door to guard it so she didn't get out and other people wouldn't go in there. oh man!

Megan went to the bathroom this morning and Sam and Shorty's door was open and Shorty was like rubbing Sam's back and telling her to wake up. We are pretty sure she's like dead.

We decided if every Thursday is like this we don't ever need to go out to find entertainment! hahahaha

Random

I would kill for some homemade puppy chow right now. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

What I've Learned

Some do's and dont's I've learned from college so far:

Do's:

• look both ways before you cross the street
• look both ways about 5 times before you cross the street
• workout because you eat a lot and I mean A LOT of food.
• find a study place outside of your dorm room
• make sure you keep a close eye out the window for drunk people- they are fun to watch!
• spend quality bonding time with your roommate
• Skype with your best friends :)

Dont's:

• walk across the street if there is a car anywhere in sight- they will NOT stop
• always just sit in your dorm room
• let your neighbors get away with obnoxiously loud music and partying
• forget to call your family! 
• spend too much time studying!

feelin' hot, hot, hot!

It's super toasty in IC today! Holy Moly! It's not even like super humid, a lot of it is like the air temp just being super hot! So due to the fact that my dorm is hot and my neighbors are annoying as hell (turn down your music, be courteous) I decided to try out the pentacrest for doing some of my work this afternoon before my next class! It's SO peaceful here! and I found a nice spot with a beautiful view!

I just grabbed some stuff to do, a little snack, my computer and off I went! oh, and a towel to sit on because I'm wearing white shorts! :) I think this will be a great place to study and just relax!

Sorry- we did not get to our project yet. We will though, I promise!

Tuesdays

Tuesday is my new favorite day because I'm done with class at 12:30 for the rest of the day! ohhh yeah! I'm pretty pumped that because I'm definitely going to use it as a homework afternoon/skype with people afternoon. It's pretty exciting.. and for the most of the day I am alone sooo it's perfect for study time and talking to other people when she's not around, cause it's kind of awkward since she knows nothing about what's happening. Oh well, she deals with it.

So tonight we are going to workout with a girl that is going to become our new friend and such so that'll be fun! And it's Tuesday so it's PRETTYYYYYYY LITTLEEEEE LIARSSSSS night! YAYAYAYAYA! But seriously, it's really exciting to me, I love that show so much! And also tonight I think we are going to do a little decorating of our ceiling.. or this weekend for sure for sure. It's going to be sooooo sweet! :)

First Class

I just finished my first class as a hawkeye! It was short, sweet, and to the point! Oh, it was Rhetoric, btw. I really like the instructor and especially like that there is NO FINAL EXAM! oh yeah! The only bad thing about getting done with class early is I had 45 minutes to go up the stairs to my next class, so I'm sitting here in the hallway typing a blog post.. go me! 

I did make new friends though! yayy for new friends! They're really nice and I could definitely see myself hanging out with them. On my way here, a nice young fellow asked me if I wanted a ride on his bike pegs. I almost said yes for two reasons: 1. he was ADORABLE. 2. it's a long walk from my dorm to this class and there isn't really a bus to take to get here, it's kind of in an awkward spot, but I managed!

It's so weird to be here and see all these different people, different from what I would see in little town Iowa. For example, there's people from Sudan, people that only wear huge dresses, people who wear practically no clothes, people who are Jewish (one is on my floor), people who only want to drink and party (so not really different, ha!), etc. But it's pretty sweet to get to experience it! Oh, some guy just walked by with longer hair than me on one side of his head and the other side was completely bald.. cute! ;)

I start classes tomorrow, but my classes don't start until 11:30am! ohhh yeahhh! It shall be interesting.. I have Rhetoric, Intro to Philosophy, and Intermediate Algebra tomorrow.. wish me luck! :)
